Open Source Discourse Plugin
I participated in the STEM-Away full stack program for two summers. The first summer, I was completely new to full stack, so I learned a lot about Git, Ruby, and the open source forum platform Discourse. In the end, my team and I successfully coded a theme component that altered the navigation bar on Discourse to a more intuitive hamburger menu. See my self assessments here! This Discourse theme component was later implemented on the STEM-Away website.
The second summer, I was the Project Management Lead for my team. Because our team had more background knowledge in full stack, we decided to create a plugin for Discourse. This plugin implemented an upvote feature (like on Reddit), so that forum viewers could see more important replies first. In addition to technical work, I also worked with team organization, organizing meetings, dividing tasks, and faciliating a team merge. See my self assessments here.
