Cool Science
Living in Palo Alto, a city next to East Palo Alto, I knew about their lack of resources. In past summers, I had volunteered at coding summer camps and taught snap circuits to elementary schoolers there. I knew I wanted to do more.
I began by researching curriculum, conducting interviews, and administering surveys. I eventually recognized that there was a problem in student accessibility to STEM resources. So, I decided to launch a weekly course for STEM topics at CostaƱo Elementary School, nicknamed Cool Science.
My lesson plans introduced: the history of technology, how programs work, binary, pixels, the internet, algorithms, error detection, and programming concepts. This project was a great learning process (from developing curriculum to working with energetic kids) and instilled in me a much greater appreciation for education.
